Our team debated about whether to add USB Flash Drives to our product selection on Ecoswag.com for quite a while before we put them on the site today. Here's the thought process that led us to the decision to include them in our definition of "eco-friendly promotional products"...
WHAT MAKES A CUSTOM LOGO USB FLASH DRIVE ECO-FRIENDLY?
If you were expecting to see a bamboo-clad USB drive here as an example of "eco-friendly" we're sorry to disappoint you. Truth is, what makes a USB flash drive eco-friendly doesn't have much to do with the material on the outside. Whether the outside is wood, rubber, bamboo or metal, when it comes to USB drives it's what's INSIDE that really matters.
The bottom line: USB flash drives are eco-friendly because of what they replace - heavy, bulky reams of paper. Much like the popular metal water bottle, their eco-appeal is based on what they keep out of the waste stream, not the material from which they're made. If your company prints and transports heavy, paper-based information such as catalogs, training materials or handout materials to events, making the switch to small, light, reusable and easily updatable USB drives is an easy way to reduce your carbon footprint.
WHY DID WE CHOOSE THE DRIVES WE DID?
In terms of product selection, it would have been a no-brainer for us to simply put the most "eco-looking" USB flash drives on our site. After all, there are bamboo, wooden and even recycled metal USB drives available in the promotional products industry.
We're eco-minded, but we're also realists, and we know from experience that price and performance are the two most important factors to our clients who buy USB flash drives. Simply put, we could offer the most eco-friendly-looking drives OR we could offer the best drives we know of at the best price. We chose the latter.
The 3 drives on our site come from iClick, a Seattle-based, A-rated flash memory supplier to the promotional product industry. Their drives are made with Tier 1 memory and carry a LIFETIME guarantee. After recently hearing a horror story about a company that sourced a large quantity of cheap, logo printed drives online... then discovered they began smoking and actually catching on fire when people used them... we definitely want to stick with quality when it comes to USB drives on our site!
WHY ONLY THREE STYLES?
Simple. The 3 USB Flash Drive styles we added to our site are always in-stock, with 24 hour turnaround and a low minimum quantity of just 12 drives. Also, prices on these 3 drives change monthly (instead of weekly) so it's easier to keep our online prices current on these styles.
That being said, we do offer the entire iClick line of USB drives as well. If you see a drive on their site you're interested in we'll be happy to custom-quote them for you!
